Which of the 6 Business Planning Types are you? A Quiz For Entrepreneurs

When you take on the role of the business owner, you take on the responsibility of planning for your business- whether you like planning or not. Over the years, working with hundreds of women business owners, I’ve noticed the same patterns pop up again and again. We all approach planning in our own way, and those tendencies can either help us grow… or quietly sabotage our progress.

So today, I want to introduce you to the Six Business Planning Types.
Not to judge or label you, but to help you see where you might be making things harder than they need to be.

Take the quiz and see which style you lean towards. Then keep reading to learn more about why this style may fit you, how it may be holding you back.

THE RESULTS

Listen to episode 110 of the Women’s Business Workshop Podcast for the full answers and what to do next for each planning type.

How it holds you back:
Your mental clutter makes decision-making almost impossible. You have limited follow-through because you’re overwhelmed by options.

B’s: You’re The One-Day-at-a-Time Operator

You’re busy. Like…really busy.
Your calendar is full, your client work is steady, and planning feels like something you’ll “do when things slow down.” (But they never do.)
You’re busy and capable, but too reactive.
You find yourself saying, “I’ll plan when things slow down… which should be… never?”

How it holds you back:
You’re constantly reacting instead of directing. You don’t zoom out long enough to steer the ship.
Your stress level stays high, even when things are going well.

C’s: You’re The Avoider

Planning feels heavy, so you delay it.
You know you need it…but you keep pushing it “until after this one thing.” That one thing ends, and magically, there’s something else more urgent that pops up.
You find yourself saying, “I swear I’ll plan right after this thing. No, the next thing. Okay… maybe next month.”

How it holds you back:
Avoidance keeps you stuck in uncertainty, and that uncertainty creates anxiety. Avoiding can also keep you small, and lets you rely on your excuses. This reduces risk and chance of failure (but also limits chance of growth and fulfilling your vision).

D’s: You’re The Perfectionist Planner

You have all of the planning products (you buy more than one planner some years), make beautiful color codes schedules and plans, and enjoy planning all of the goals!
You love planning, love the perfection of a perfect plan, but it stills makes you feel overwhelmed, so you don’t follow through on them.
You find yourself saying, “I have these amazing pens you have to try.”
(I am guilty of this one! My clients know my favorite pens…Frixion are the best!)

How it holds you back:
Waiting becomes procrastination disguised as preparation.
You have too many conflicting goals and too many plans, so none are executed consistently.

E’s: You’re The Partner Planner

You thrive in workshops, co-working sessions, at in-person events, or with a coach. You get so much clarity when you’re not alone. You need the accountability and connection from being with people.
But once you leave the room… the plan slowly fades and sits quietly in a notebook…untouched.
You find yourself saying, “Tell me what to do and I’ll do it… but only if you sit next to me.”

How it holds you back:
There’s no follow-through because you lose the accountability that got you motivated.

F’s: You’re The Wing-It Free Spirit

You resist rigid planning, you want flexibility. Planning makes you feel trapped, boxed in, or pressured.
You rely on vibes, intuition, and “what feels right today.”
But deep down, it’s safer not to plan because planning requires commitment, and commitment requires clarity.

You find yourself thinking, “Plans are great- for other people who enjoy being trapped.”

This is a reminder that these are common planning types. Meaning- you are not alone in these habits. Usually they are an unconscious way to protect ourselves. They are patterns. Patterns can be changed once you understand them.

As I always say- one next step at a time. You don’t need perfection, just the next step.
